This week Rockwood’s 2015-16 Leading from the Inside Out (LIO) National Yearlong fellows are meeting for the first of three weeklong sessions over the coming year to advance their leadership and build relationships that will change their lives and our world for the better.
For thirteen years now, Rockwood Leadership Institute’s LIO fellowship has brought together the leaders of the foremost progressive social change organizations in the U.S. and Canada. Everything we said last year at this time bears repeating: STP recruits the National LIO fellows, partnering with Rockwood to ensure a diverse and balanced cohort, and we support LIO alumni to continue their learning and promote collaboration after they finish their yearlong experience.
And next week, the third cohort of Rockwood’s Cross-Movement Yearlong fellows will meet for their first of three sessions as well. The Cross-Movement Yearlong fellowship (XMY, for short) was inspired by LIO alumni who want to grow connective tissue among their organizations while building out the bench of their senior teams. Through our partnership with Rockwood, we recruit the participating organizations and help raise the funds that make this important program possible.
The experience, learning, and bonding that goes on in the XMY LIO fellowship is comparable to the National LIO fellowship in many ways. The difference is that these fellows’ organizations — and the National LIO alums who lead them — are expressly committed to finding effective ways to collaborate together on the big interconnected challenges we face as a movement.
In addition to providing major professional learning and leadership development for the fellows, the XMY LIO fellowship helps develop consistency in the leadership culture among top staff at participating organizations.
The 11 participating organizations in the 2015-16 Cross-Movement Yearlong are:
- Center for Community Change (CCC)
- Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA)
- Greenpeace USA
- Jobs with Justice
- NARAL Pro-Choice America
- National LGBTQ Task Force
- Service Employees International Union (SEIU)
- Sierra Club
- United Automobile Workers (UAW)
STP congratulates all the National and Cross-Movement fellows starting their LIO journeys this month, and wish them fruitful journeys with open hearts and minds that lead to real impacts on our collective work for progressive change.
